Educational Programs


The museum's educational programs are age appropriate and designed to meet curriculum needs. Interactive tours allow students to practice academic skills, including listening, note taking, writing, and sequencing. Time is allotted at each exhibit area for a question and answer period.

Hands-On Displays
Includes objects used to construct shelters and make clothing, tools, and wampum.

Special Programs
Encourage students to use new information, previous knowledge, imagination, and senses to gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

If a teacher chooses to add a special program to the tour and hands-on display, please allow for at least 30 minutes additional time in the schedule.

Off Site Presentations
Arrangements can be made for museum personnel to make presentations at individual schools or organizations. Call for more information: (631) 287-4923.

BOCES Subcontractor
SNCC&M accepts payment as a subcontractor through the E. Suffolk BOCES Arts-in-Education Services.

Museum Store
The museum store has many handcrafted and other appropriate items for students and teachers. Prices start at $2.00.

Scheduling Information

  • Group size flexible. Please call to make arrangements for groups over 100 people.
  • Availability—Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Chaperones—one chaperone is required for every 10 students.

The length of the tour varies according to group interaction and questions. Generally tours take two hours - which includes one hour of interactive tour, 30 minutes of hands-on display, and 30 minutes for gift shop visitation.


Fees

  • Guided tour and hands-on display—$8.00 per person including chaperones, teacher free.
  • Tour with special program—$8.00 per student (add $2.00 for each additional program)
  • Deposit—A non-refundable 25% deposit is due with application. Balance is to be paid the day of visit.
  • Cancellation fee—We require a 1-week notice of cancellation of your scheduled visit. A fee of $50.00 will be charged for non-notification of cancellation or late cancellation. No charge for cancellation due to inclement weather. Rescheduling is usually possible and preferred.
